Today (14/7) is the French national holiday (La fête nationale), also known as Bastille Day due to its ties to the Storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789, over 200 years ago. The celebrations occur all throughout France and even in other countries, such as Belgium, Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States, and more. One of the biggest celebrations, the oldest (since 1880) and largest regular military parade in Europe, occurs at the Champs-Élysées in Paris, from the Arc de Triomphe to the Place de la Concorde. At night, fireworks light up the night sky, including the Eiffel Tower (Tour Eiffel).
There are plenty of events and places, even in the states, to commemorate this important French holiday! So have fun and celebrate!
