Bonjour et joyeux quatorze juillet!


Today (14/7) is the French national holiday (La fête nationale), also known as Bastille Day due to its ties to the Storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789, over 200 years ago. The celebrations occur all throughout France and even in other countries, such as Belgium, Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States, and more.

One of the biggest celebrations, the oldest (since 1880) and largest regular military parade in Europe, occurs at the Champs-Élysées in Paris, from the Arc de Triomphe to the Place de la Concorde. At night, fireworks light up the night sky, including the Eiffel Tower (Tour Eiffel).

There are plenty of events and places, even in the states, to commemorate this important French holiday! So have fun and celebrate!

Bastille Day

Bonjour! Tomorrow is Quatorze Juillet, none other than Bastille Day, France's national day! So, celebrate (especially if you're in France)!

Tarot Card Readings

Merci! to anyone who attended our French dinner this past weekend. It was truly a success!

Tomorrow (24 avril) we will be conducting tarot card readings, so be sure to be in Room 330 at lunch for this fun event!

Secret Santa Gift Exchange

Hello to all!

We will be having our final meeting of 2014 tomorrow (December 12), so don't miss out! Remember to bring your Secret Santa gifts, as we will be conducting the exchange at this meeting. Afterwards, we have a fun game planned for everyone!

First Potluck!

Another important event to announce is our first potluck (and probably the last) of the year (no, not the school year). This potluck will take place on Monday, the 8th of December. We will be having loads of great French food, but we also need your help. It will be greatly appreciated if you could bring a small French dish for everyone to enjoy. Thank you so much!

Un autre évènement important … notre premier potluck (et probablement le dernier) de l'année (non, pas de l'année scolaire). Ce repas à partager aura lieu lundi huit décembre. Nous aurons beaucoup de plats français, mais nous avons aussi besoin de votre aide. S'il vous plaît, apporter un petit plat français à partager. Picture Day Tomorrow!

Tomorrow will be picture day. Please wear white and remember to bring your ID card. This is a very important meeting, so please come! We will still be meeting in Room 330.

Troy's 50th Anniversary Celebration

Hello everyone! Please attend Troy's 50th anniversary celebration, today from 11A.M. to 4 P.M. The French club will be having a fun carnival game. To see what this game is, please come to our booth during the celebration. The game costs 1 ticket to play, and there are many prizes to win. Don't miss out on this fun event!

Bonjour tout le monde! S'il vous plait, venez à la fête du 50ème anniversaire de Troy, aujourd'hui à partir de onze heures jusqu'à seize heures. Le cercle de français aura un jeu de carnaval bien amusant. Pour voir quel jeu c'est, venez s'il vous plait à notre stand lors de la célébration. Le jeu coûte un ticket pour jouer, et il y a de nombreux prix à gagner. Ne manquez pas cet événement amusant!

Jacques BREL:

Genius songwriter and performer, Jacques Brel (1929-1978), moved audiences with elegies of love, mock-epics of bourgeois doldrums, and grim derisions of death.  Born in a traditional Flemish family living in a suburb of Brussels, Brel chose singing over working in his father's factory. Over a rich range of melodies and musical styles, Brel's writing mixed blue-collar lyricism with Beat poetics. Director and actor André Nerman brings to the stage Brel's life in a dramatic montage of Brel's own songs and poems. French stage star, Nelly Anne Rabas sings and acts with Nerman, over live accompaniments of pianist Laurent Clergeau.

Chanteur-compositeur et comédien de génie, Jacques Brel (1929-1978) a ému le public avec ses élégies de l’amour, ses moqueries de la bourgeoisie et la façon dont il parle la mort avec dérision. Né d’une famille traditionnelle flamande dans la banlieue bruxelloise, Brel a préféré chanter que travailler dans l’usine paternelle.  L’artiste tourmenté mêle les genres et les styles dans une écriture qui passe du lyrisme au baroque en passant par la satire. L’auteur-compositeur-interprète André Nerman a mis en scène ce spectacle musical qui reprend la vie et de l’œuvre de Brel.  Nerman joue et chante au côté de la comédienne Nelly Anne Rabas.  Ils sont accompagnés au piano par Laurent Clergeau.

Sign Up at Club Rush!

Now is the time! Sign up for French Club in the quad during Club Rush (Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday)!  Meetings will be on Fridays, and we have many fun events planned for the year! So, again, don't forget to sign up for French Club this week!

C'est le moment de s'inscrire! Inscrivez-vous pour le club français dans le quad pendant Club Rush (mercredi, jeudi et vendredi)!  Les réunions se tiendront le vendredi.  Nous avons beaucoup d'événements amusants prévus pour l'année!
