Halloween in France

Only recently has Halloween attempted to be celebrated in France with French children knocking on people's doors for treats.  To an American, it may seem surprising that Halloween, a holiday with such excitement in the US may actually be completely omitted from the French lifestyle.  

People have tried to bring Halloween into the French culture, but it really has not made an impact.  It's as if Americans were all told to celebrate Bastille Day (see more on Bastille Day), the French date of national independence.  

Even though people have tried hard to bring this celebration to France, it has overall not influenced French culture and its traditions.

Fun Fact!
The popular phrase, "Trick or Treat" in English eventually ended up becoming "des bonbons ou des coups de bâton" (some candy or some smacks with a stick).

Il y a peu d'années que Halloween est célébré en France et que les enfants frappent aux portes des maisons pour demander des bonbons. Pour un Américain, cela peut sembler surprenant que Halloween, une fête pour laquelle les enfants ont un tel enthousiasme aux États-Unis, ne soit pas célébrée par les français.

Des personnes ont essayé d'importer Halloween en France, mais ceci n'a pas vraiment eu d'impact. C'est un peu comme si on demandait à tous les Américains de célébrer le 14 juillet (voir plus sur Bastille Day), la date de l'indépendance nationale française.

Même si quelques personnes ont vraiment essayé d'établir cette célébration en France, après tout, ceci n'a pas vraiment influencé la France ou ces traditions.

Troy's 50th Anniversary Celebration

Hello everyone! Please attend Troy's 50th anniversary celebration, today from 11A.M. to 4 P.M. The French club will be having a fun carnival game. To see what this game is, please come to our booth during the celebration. The game costs 1 ticket to play, and there are many prizes to win. Don't miss out on this fun event!

Bonjour tout le monde! S'il vous plait, venez à la fête du 50ème anniversaire de Troy, aujourd'hui à partir de onze heures jusqu'à seize heures. Le cercle de français aura un jeu de carnaval bien amusant. Pour voir quel jeu c'est, venez s'il vous plait à notre stand lors de la célébration. Le jeu coûte un ticket pour jouer, et il y a de nombreux prix à gagner. Ne manquez pas cet événement amusant!

Fondu Friday!

Bonjour, everyone! Tomorrow (October 24) will be our first food day. We will be having chocolate fondue with lots of things to eat it with! To make this possible, we are requesting a small donation of 50¢. However, you may also bring an item to dip in the fondue with enough so that you can share with many people. Remember to come to room 330 for this delicious treat!

Demain (le 24 octobre), ce sera notre premier jour où on amènera de la nourriture.  On aura de la fondue au chocolat avec plein de choses à manger!  Pour que ce soit possible, on demande une petite donation de 50¢.  Pourtant, vous pouvez aussi amener des choses pour tremper dans la fondue en ayant assez pour partager avec plein de gens.  Souvenez vous de venir à la salle 330 pour cette gâterie délicieuse!
